Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team - "Semper Paratus"

15/04/13 @ 11.58 Team paged following a report of a dolphin washed ashore on castle beach. Once on scene it was established that it was in fact a 4.4 metre Pilot Whale, teams from the BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) also attended.

Falmouth Team setup and manned the various cordons required due to the sheer number of onlookers and assisted the vet with rolling the whale and BDLMR team with water supplies from the sea.

Despite everyone’s best efforts, sadly the decision was made to euthanize the whale at around 1430.

Team stayed on scene until around 1900 as disposal of such a large animal from such an awkward position has its challenges.

Thanks to Devon and Cornwall Police, Castle Beach Cafe and various members of the public that helped us all out.
